About BlueDentists

Our Mission

BlueDentists is a health information service dedicated to helping patients across England find NHS dental care. We believe that everyone should be able to quickly find an NHS dentist who is accepting new patients, without trawling through multiple websites or making dozens of phone calls.

Founded in 2026, bluedentists.co.uk was created to solve one of the most common frustrations in NHS dental care: knowing which practices near you are actually accepting new patients right now.

We aggregate, verify, and present NHS dental practice data in a clear, searchable format covering 2,350+ dental practices across every region of England.

Our Data & Methodology

Accuracy is the foundation of our service. We take a rigorous, multi-source approach to collecting and maintaining dental practice data:

  • Primary data source: All practice listings are sourced from NHS.uk, the official website of the National Health Service.
  • Cross-referenced with CQC records: We verify each practice against the Care Quality Commission register to confirm registration status and inspection ratings.
  • Automated monitoring: Our systems run regular automated checks to detect changes in acceptance status, contact details, and opening hours.

What data we collect for each practice:

  • Patient acceptance status (adults, children, and those entitled to free dental care)
  • Opening times and appointment availability
  • Facilities and accessibility information
  • Treatments offered (NHS and private)
  • Contact details (phone, address, website)
  • CQC registration and inspection rating

Each practice page displays a validation timestamp showing when the information was last verified against official sources.

Editorial Standards

We hold ourselves to strict editorial standards to ensure our directory remains trustworthy:

  • Verified against official sources: All practice information is checked against NHS.uk listings and CQC registration records before publication.
  • CQC registration confirmed: We only list practices that hold a valid CQC registration for dental services.
  • Moderated user reviews: All user-submitted reviews and feedback are moderated before publication to prevent misinformation and abuse.
  • No medical advice: We provide factual directory information only. Our content is not a substitute for professional dental or medical advice.
  • Transparent corrections: If you spot an error, we encourage you to let us know so we can investigate and correct it promptly.

Data Sources

BlueDentists relies on the following authoritative, publicly available data sources:

NHS.uk
Our primary data source for dental practice listings, acceptance status, and contact information.
Care Quality Commission (CQC)
We cross-reference with the CQC to confirm practice registration, inspection ratings, and regulatory compliance.
NHS Business Services Authority (NHS BSA)
NHS dental charges are set and published by the NHS Business Services Authority. We reference their official charge bands below.

What is NHS Dental Care?

NHS dental care is available to everyone in England. You don't need to be registered with a GP to receive NHS dental treatment. NHS dentists provide a range of treatments to keep your teeth and gums healthy, from check-ups and fillings to more complex procedures like crowns and dentures.

While many dental practices offer both NHS and private treatments, NHS dental care is subsidised and follows a fixed banding system for charges.

NHS Dental Charges (2025/26)

NHS dental treatment is charged in three standard bands:

Band Cost What's Included
Band 1 £27.40 Examination, diagnosis, advice, X-rays, scale and polish (if needed), planning for further treatment
Band 2 £75.30 Everything in Band 1, plus fillings, root canal treatment, extractions
Band 3 £326.70 Everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures, bridges

Who Gets Free NHS Dental Treatment?

You're entitled to free NHS dental treatment if you:

  • Are under 18, or under 19 and in full-time education
  • Are pregnant or have had a baby in the previous 12 months
  • Are being treated in an NHS hospital and the treatment is carried out by the hospital dentist
  • Receive certain benefits (Income Support, Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance, Universal Credit with no earnings, etc.)
  • Hold a valid NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate
  • Hold a valid HC2 certificate
